MSYSA Nominating Committee Report December 22, 2009 The following nomination was received via the online nomination process prior to the published cut off date of November 1 st, 2009:President Sohail Qureshi Mr. Quereshi is the current sitting President of the MSYSA. This is his first term as President.
From MSYSA AGM Book - page 20 President Report Sohail Qureshi, President MSYSA February 2010 will mark the end of the second year of my first term as president of this association. This past year MSYSA has seen a number of accomplishments. Of particular interest MSYSA is proud to announce that our team of MSYSA, Saginaw Township Soccer Association, Saginaw Valley Convention and Visitors Bureau, and Saginaw Valley State University has been awarded the 2012 US Youth Soccer Regional Championships! Our goal from the beginning was to secure this bid for our state and the Saginaw area. US Youth Soccer estimates that this event will generate an estimated $7-8 million dollars in revenue for the local economy in the year 2012. I would like to thank MSYSA Executive Director Tom Frisbie and Event Manager Sarah Shiguango for their work and collaboration with our partners on this project. I would also like to thank Michigan Soccer Association State Referee Administrator Carlos Folino and Pete Morrissey for their work to help secure this bid. This is a big project for MSYSA and our partners in the Saginaw area and I am looking forward to seeing it come to fruition. Our state cup finals continue to spread the MSYSA mission to new areas of the state. This year we had finals in East Lansing and our first state cup finals held indoor in Pontiac. Both of the spring and fall semis, quarters and finals were highlighted on the sports show State Champs on MyTV20. Please continue to look for MSYSA on State Champs. MSYSA introduced a new E-newsletter this year called Heads-Up. The e-newsletter is a great way to keep up to date on important topics and dates. If you have not been receiving this in your email please contact the State Office. As I write this MSYSA is in the process of finalizing both our Process Improvement Study and our agreement with Hartland Township for our new state facility. Both of these projects are very complex and have taken considerable time to accomplish and in the end I feel our members will be happy we deliberated to make these projects the best they could be. MSYSA Executive Director Tom Frisbie is wrapping up his fourth year in his position. I would like to thank him for his dedication and leadership and, at times, his ability to handle my many ideas and projects! Tom and his staff continue to provide outstanding services, programs and events for our membership. I would like to give special thanks to each of them Tom Frisbie, Sarah Shiguango, Adam Keller, Char Patterson, Barb Sarkesian and Melissa Campbell. I would also like to thank our Director of Coaching Bryan Thorp for managing a steep learning curve in his first year of service. I am quite certain that when our search committee took our time to hire Bryan we made the right decision. In his first year Bryan has shown that he is a capable leader both at the state and regional level. We as a membership should feel lucky to be able to say that he is our DOC. MSYSA continues to be a strong leader in our region. Although there will always be challenges ahead for us I believe with our members and volunteers we can meet those challenges with success. Any adversity allows for opportunities to make our association stronger from recreational programs through premier. With the individuals we have in place at the State Office, on the Board of Directors and on our committees, please be assured that MSYSA will continue to be a leader in our state and our region for many years. This we could not make happen without the efforts and hours of hard work of our volunteers, administrators and coaches. Thank you for all of your dedication, hard work and sacrifice during the past year. If there is anything I can do to be of service please feel free to contact me. Sincerely, Sohail Qureshi President |
