Any comments on the new IRB protocal and study on concussions?

You might want to check out this NY Times article on the issue.

It is about time. Concussions have been treated seriously in junior rugby for some time. The concern will be from the professional rugby comps: Super 15, Heinekin Cup, Magner's League, the RaboDirect Premiership. Big money in all these games so who is to decide , at the time, who is or isn't concussed. Will the various competitions fork out for neutral medicos at each game? Big bucks there. If we leave it to the clubs, will they potentially lose an important game?

Finally. It's been a concern in our game in regards to injuries and concussions and I think we had a discussion about this a couple of weeks back on here but finally they're taking a stance for the well being of the players and game. Even small bumps are serious and such is the nature of the sport. In the first round of ITM cup they have trialled (I think I remember seeing it) as well as on the Rugby Championship where the trainer pats their head and the player in concern leaves the field &has 5 or so minutes to pass a couple of tests before being cleared to return. Everyone of course is human and we can't have the game we love go over the health of a fellow man. Interested to see more reports as the year progresses.
