You play the position the coach puts you at. The coach picks the best side he can from the players he has. If the coach says "I want you to play centre" you don't say "no, I'm a lock".

from what I can tell you might be better in the forwards as a lock since you tall and strong

If your tall and strong try being a lock ;)
