You don't have to support anyone to enjoy rugby. Try watching as many clubs as you can until you find out which one you like best. You might find that it is not a top tier team.
Well if your limit your choices to first level (Avivia Premiership) teams, then it would be Sale Sharks. If you are willing to consider second tier (RFU Championship) clubs, then Newcastle Falcons and Leeds-Carnegie become options. The problem you are facing is that in northern England (and unlike anywhere else in the world except parts of Australian), Rugby League tends to dominate over the Union game.
Sale Sharks are the only top flight side in the North and they are struggling pretty badly this season. If Newcastle Falcons and Leeds-Carnegie both play in the league below. iN my honest opinion Leeds's ground lacks any atmosphere as it is such a big stadium and hey don't get a great deal of supporters. You could and help add numbers to there supporters or go to Newcastle who have a good ground and always fill it quite well and are winning every week. Just be sure to wrap up warm as it is a really blustery ground and can be real cold.
