so i was wondering what kind of stuff could i be doing to impress them?

Gee, about what you'd expect, surely. Arrive promptly, ready to go at the designated start. Introduce yourself to people, with eye contact and a firm handshake; focus on names as much as you can. Then speak when you are spoken to. Arrive rested and well hydrated - they will be looking at your fitness for sure; be sure your gear is in first-rate order (laces in your boots; your gum shield and scrum-cap (if you wear one) Focus on details of skills and technique; leave the fancy stuff for later. They are looking for a rugby player. Allocate all the time you imagine this might take. If you are not part of the run-on 15, attend to what is happening on the field, and be ready to go if/when you are called. At some suitable time (*early*), ask the coaches and/or senior players to go over any special directions - e.g., line-out calls if you are a forward. Listen to whatever instructions the officials give, and pay attention to how the referee is calling matters that affect your play - you don't want to be collecting offenses if/when you play, if they could be avoided. If you manage to score, act like you have been there before - thank the fellows who made it happen. Simple stuff, really, always works best. Mark L.
