Is it okay to dive on the ball?

During a rugby match, if the ball is just sitting there on the ground between the two teams that are both fairly close to it, is it a good idea for a player to dive onto the ball in order to secure possession for their team in order to start another breakdown? Diving on the ball in that situation is exactly what a player is expected to do. Then get up and keep going, assuming you aren't held down. A gruber kick is another option, but less preferable because it doesn't guarentee that your side will win possession.

It's fine, but remember if a player from the other team gets to you first, you have to relinquish it.

Fine to dive on the ball to try to keep possession. The days are gone when we (the forwards) could dribble the ball downfield.

Yea mate you get down on that ball as quickly as you can, and get back to your feet if you can.

yer, its perfectly good just make sure u have a support player to back u up or keep the rate of attack up.

For sure, preferably people kick along the ground or just snag it without diving on it but diving on it if you have good enough support in the rucks may be a good idea to ensure you keep the ball. May be a little dangerous though
