My rugby coach expects me to be aggressive to my own friend which result in me hurting them as well as myself!?

What shall I do?

The problem here sounds like one of understanding what being aggressive in rugby means. It is not -EVER - a substitute for proper technique in play. For example, someone trained in American football would see a shoulder charge as "aggressive." In fact, it is BAD rugby, and stupid - you will be in the sin-bin, and your coach's team will be playing man down for 10 minutes. In all likelihood, you will have an injured shoulder and be unable to play for some period - maybe a longish while. And if this is happening in training, one of your own teammates may be injured, too. Being aggressive in rugby, in any responsible way, is a matter of applying the technique that you have learned, within the rules of the game, with quickness and strength, and a sustained work-rate over the game that is superior to your opponents."getting there fustest with the mostest," as one of the Confederate generals said in the US Civil War. It's not throwing your body around wildly or trying to terrorize your opponents. In school rugby the emphasis always should be on learning how to play rugby skillfully, as you build strength, speed and experience. If that is not the structure of your school or youth program, then there is a serious flaw in its program. That doe snot at all mean that the game is not one of contact - obviously it is. But it is contact that is constrained by the technique, the body mechanics that are needed to achieve success within the rules of rugby. Mark L

You can either tackle properly or quit rugby and play Tea-Parties with your friend. You won't hurt him then.

No, be aggressive but smart. Play hard but fair

Rugby is an aggressive game, but try to improve your technique if your hurting yourself and others

Be aggressive with other people instead then you won't hurt your friend
