Rugby tackling pacific islanders?

Posted at: 2014-07-08
i'm from scotland, playing some rugby in new zealand this summer for my holidays. i know how to tackle, i'm quite good at it actually, but i've never had to deal with big pacific islander boys. does anyone have any advice on how to tackle these guys? they are big and fast and strong. i've never had to deal with players of this standard before and my confidence is low as i missed a tackle today in a match which led to a try. i'm a fullback, about 6ft 1" but skinny and light.i'm from scotland, playing some rugby in new zealand this summer for my holidays. i know how to tackle, i'm quite good at it actually, but i've never had to deal with big pacific islander boys. does anyone have any advice on how to tackle these guys? they are big and fast and strong. i've never had to deal with players of this standard before and my confidence is low as i missed a tackle today in a match which led to a try. i'm a fullback, about 6ft 1" but skinny and light.

watch this tackling video. Its done by Pat Lam and kiwi islander himself.

Google some video of Peter Stringer in action. His playing weight is only 155 lbs but he never had trouble bringing down the big players. In a nutshell, the answer is get low. If you have them by the ankles, it doesn't matter how large they are. They will come down.

Hey there, I'm an islander with 3 big brothers who all play rugby very well my dad's a coach for a club, i'll keep it simple DO NOT TACKLE THEM FRONT ON!=O okay now that that is out of the way, remember this okay, tackle them from the side!*number one rule* - do not go to low, grab them, arms around there waist real tight, pull them down and do not let go :) it works all the time. And please don't try tackling them by grabbing their legs, this is for your own safety :)

hold them by the legs and they will eventually fall
