As a kiwi I agree with you
Playing football casually (like on the beach) or just with some mates. Is definitely more enjoyable. But rugby is far better to watch, and if you play it (despite it being physically demanding) you are IMMEDIATELY a boss!
Well at the moment I prefer football, but only because there's no rugby clubs around for me to join.
Both are great to watch. I go through periods where I find one more compelling to watch, assuming by football you mean as the americans would say "soccer". Both have common routes in being end to end games. Its silly that on some other websites people go on about how ones better than the other. Although some others here from Aus, SA, NZ and Eng will likely disagree, I find any sport but something like cricket or baseball to be interesting. Ones like these are an effort to watch for me personally.
Rugby

Definitely rugby. You can use your hands with the ball and run with it rather than having to play the game with your feet.
Which type of rugby? Union or League? And which type of "football"? Association, Gaelic, American, Australian ....? I can think of at least eight different games in the football "code", all of which go by that name in various parts of the world.
Well I'm in the middle I play rugby but where I live there is no where for guys to play so they play football I enjoy watching there games so I'm in the middle
