I understand not wanting to work out the day before a game, but if you really want to improve your fitness, you should try to do something every day, even if its just a run around your neighborhood. You should probably commit to Thursday Saturday Monday because that way your workouts are spread out. I know it sounds horrendous to do a work out the day after a game, but it will actually make you feel better, especially if you just do the cardio parts of your workout.
