Is the rumour that Shane Williams is coming out of retirement for the lions true?

Yes, and to be honest its not a bad idea. Many people are criticising this, however, any winger called up now will hardly be playing in a test. He's an injury, injury back up. The reason he's been called up is that the Lions have a game on Tues and don't want to risk many first team players. The players playing in the Brumbies game are players who are either on the brink of making the test team and Gatland wants a bit more proof, or else theyre players playing for fitness and form or just plainly playing them as it'll likely be their last game on tour. Given the fact that in Japan he's pretty much in the same time zone, it means no jet lag unlike flying out players from Argentina or Europe or S.A. which is stupid for a game in two days time

Yes he has a 3 day lions contract. Gatrland said the deal was, arrive Monday, play tues then leave lions den on Wednesday which Shane agreed to and why wouldny you jump at the chance! Check rugbyheaven.com for the updates. Can't wait to see the game tomorrow, the btumbies will be outdone in the forwards but am looking to see some good backline rugby led by toomua.

I agree with Rugby Fan, above, he is out in Australia anyway and is only playing as a back up for one game to cover for injured players and to rest uninjured players!!

From today's Guardian: "Lions call up Christian Wade, Brad Barritt and Shane Williams." So, apparently, yes.
