Rugby and field hockey/lacrosse are growing because colleges are beginning to fund them as varsity sports - they are relatively inexpensive and can help balance scholarship offerings required in athletics - and high schools are also catching the wave, due to programs not busting budgets.
Sure, it's growing, but it's hard to imagine it ever rivaling the popularity of the gridiron game in the US. Even Association Football struggles there.

I would definitely agree that Rugby is one of THE fastest growing sports in the USA. All of my American friends have been recently telling me Rugby is becoming rapidly popular in their high school/universities. However, I don't ever think that Rugby will become AS popular as Basketball, American Football or Baseball, but it will definitely because much bigger in the next 10 years or so.
No, because it wasn't originated here, so it won't be part of our culture.
