League or Union? Either way, you certainly don't want to be alternating with your winger. It's basically your job to provide width to your teams attack and turn the opportunities created by your team mates inside you into points. Any kick to the corner, any passing move towards your side of the field, you need to finish it. That said, there is no law saying that you can't come inside. Pick your moments. If you see that someone has made a break down the centre of the field, support him. Run some angles of your 9, 10 and 12. Do your job, but do what you can to score tries. That's the best advice I can give you really.
