I am confused do you mean rugby league and association football (soccer)? in witch case soccer is by far the most popular sport world wide. The only country where league would be more populer would be Aus and maybe in NZ. If you mean rugby league and rugby union then union is much bigger. As far as i know there is no draft or trading system in all three sports. There are clubs and provincial teams, these may by city or region based. when a player is considered good enough, they are picket for there national squads that are country based. Players are normally offered contracts to play for clubs or provincial squads out of high school , university, or are scouted out of lover level clubs. there is a open window in the year when rival teams my offer a player who's contract with his existing team expires, a new contract to them, the player can then choose to go to the new team or negotiate with his existing team for a new contract. When a player is offered a new contract, the the team he is currently sighed for has the option of counter offering the new teams offer. A team also has the ability to buy out a players contract if his contract with his current team has not expired jet
At present, league is more popular but association football is catching up slowly. In Aus, there is no draft or trade windows in these sports (rugby as well). Players do tend to stay with their club until their contract expires when they decide to stay on or move on. There is no transfer system like in English soccer. Country players can go where they like as can city players. AFL is different where they do have a draft system.
