It could be genetics as well as it could also be different workout routines. Some people don't balance all parts of their body and only work on one or two body parts at a time, often once abs are visible people forget about them and will work on something else. More defined and 'curvy' abs are very bulky and strong (lots of crunches and situps). Wider abs would be someone who has worked on their obliques, widening the torso.
we're all different as human beings so i guess that is what makes us unique as individuals
