How do I prepare myself for rugby?

Next year I plan to join the rugby team. Right now I currently endurance and strength train. What can I do at the gym that will help prepare me for next year?

Do the following exercises: Dead-lifts( Good for back and legs for rucking and tackling) Squats( The stronger your legs are, the faster you run) Bench press (Impact absorption plus strength) Pull ups( for good biceps) Depending on what position you want to play also do position specific field drills Choose boots which you feel comfortable in( adidas Rs7, Predator Incurzas, ff80 trx and Puma evoSpeed 1[My Boot] are good choices.) If you have a lot of soft grounds on our calendar get the Soft-Ground versions and vice-versa for Firm Ground

Well, if you are not physically primed for rugby by the time the rugby season starts....don't bother playing. the half assed players are the ones who go no where, get injured, look stupid and get man handled. going into the season with good cardio and a layer of natural protective padding (toned muscle or muscle and fat) is going to go a long way to helping you have a great season. You will have to do some RESEARCH yourself, because theres a lot of things you need to know. but the basic overview is as follows. 1. get out and train 4 times a week. Work mostly on your legs. types of training you should focus on I) Fartlek training (for fitness) ii) Plyometrics (for speed and power) iii) flexibility (prevents injuries) also check this out (junior all blacks do this kind of stuff)
