What can I do to keep fit in the off-season (rugby)?

Posted at: 2014-07-08
I'm fourteen years old, weigh around 10 stone, I am 5'8 and normally play flanker. What should I do to keep fit in the off-season for rugby? Are there any sports I can play, training I can do? I would prefer not to run, but can if necessary. I would also be looking to develop core strength and agility. (I have no access to gym equipment, etc) Thank you in advance for all answers.I'm fourteen years old, weigh around 10 stone, I am 5'8 and normally play flanker. I'm your height and about 12 stone. Don't think it gets any better than roadwork; meaning taking jog with sprints put in between for your stamina. 2-3 times a week at 30 min each run should help to keep you fit and then you may want put in some crunches, planks, burpees and push-ups to strengthen your core (Like you, I have little access to Gym Equipment). I've followed this program from all through out my martial arts training, football and now when doing rugby and it's helped me so far. You could give it a try and decide after to add or subtract stuff as you figure out what works best for you.

I've been speed skipping for about 2 months now, I feel like I am getting stronger and quicker. This helps a lot as it improves footwork and it helps keep your wrists moving well so your passing skills do not deteriorate.
