Hey, I hate scrum caps because I find them really uncomftable. And I don't want cauliflower ears. But I can't find any sports tape and someone was telling me that you can't use the type of cloth you get in a first aid box so im not sure what kind of cloth the pro's use. Whoever told you that cloth tape couldn't be used doesn't have a clue. Anyway, second rowers commonly use medical tape (the type used for wrapping knees or ankles, etc) wrapped around their ears, sometimes secured with an extra layer of electrical tape to secure it. You can get it at any pharmacy or drug store.
