Carter, but that takes nothing away from Wilkinson, all time 2nd fly half behind carter who is probably one of the best ever.
As a passionate Englishman &huge Wilko fan, I'd have to say Dan Carter, he's unbelievable.
Well, Carter has a better attacking game but Wilkinson has a superior kicking ability and much better defence. A combination of the two's better skills would make by far the ultimate out-half. I'd have to say Carter though, as he's more creative and plays more running rugby.

For all round skills Dan Carter minus his limited drop kicking skills. Ironically Wilkinson was better at that and won the 03 RWC for England by kicking the winning pot. While Carter showed poor judgement against France by not kicking one in the 07 RWC quarters loss.

DC is the complete player with the exception, as someone said, of taking field goals. Even so, he is the better player. JW is the better kicker and defender but it stops there. Honourable mention to Stephen Larkham. He was a better runner and passer than DC and on a par in most other ways except as a kicker. Would have loved to see Larkham play behind a decent pack so we could truly know how good he might have been. He was better than Wilko IMO, I am an Aussie after all, but Carter shades him.
