My advice is to explain to your doctor that stretching is only making your pain reach an equilibrium [which basically means you're not getting any better], and that he should prescribe you to a physical therapist, that way your stretching can be amplified by other stretches that really help, and not hinder you. But don't worry, it's not going to be life-threatening, and you'll be perfectly fine so long as you get a more specialized person to look at you. Also, try not to excessively think about it! Could be your head making the problem worse than it already is, which actually is quite common. I had the same problem, just with volleyball. This is the best section to ask since we know more about you than your doctor. I would recommend joining all available sporting activity asap coz that's gonna speed up the recovery process.
