Is rugby in danger of being dropped by FOX in the US?

I noticed the FOX SOCCER channel is being dropped and possibly merged with FOX SOCCER PLUS and the future FOX SPORTS 1. Will rugby take a hit because of this?

Well, only the folks at Fox could tell yout that, and even they might not know yet. But I wouldn't worry. There is a growing market for rugby in the United States and money to be made from that market. If Fox doesn't pickup the broadcast rights for the various competitions, then someone else will. Perhaps NBC's Universal Sports channel. I understand they were pleased with the number of American viewers they got during the 2011 Rugby World Cup. In any event, the various streaming services online now offer a large variety of rugby-viewing options, and those options are just going to keep growing. Mainstream Network TV -- at least as it's been understood over the last 60 years -- may well be a thing of the past.

it it is dropped by fox, i bet nbc picks it up. the new person in charge of sports wants to expand the american mindset. they picked up the premiere league football from fox beginning this august.

Its all about money. If it doesn't, in some way, make money or have the potential to make money its gone. End of story!
