If you ask the question this way on a Rugby forum, guess what - you will get a bunch of people saying yes. And it certainly is a very successful sport . But there is a diverse and excellent tradition of sport in New Zealand that deserves notice, even amongst rugby fanatics. Some which even a sometimes visitor knows would include sailing; competitive canoeing/kayaking; hockey (both men and women); Rugby League; netball. They punch well above their weight in cricket and football. And who remains, well over a half century on, the most recognized name in mountaineering? Kiwi legend Sir Edmund Hillary. Everyone who does alpine climbing wants to come to the Southern Alps, and there are New Zealand climbers everywhere you look around the world in climbing and mountaineering. Mark L
