Im going to France to play rugby, and in france my age group has to have uncontested scrums (i dont know why, its just a french thing) i was wondering if the number 8 can pick and go from the back of the scrum if its uncontestedIm going to France to play rugby, and in france my age group has to have uncontested scrums (i dont know why, its just a french thing) i was wondering if the number 8 can pick and go from the back of the scrum if its uncontested

Those wacky Frogs! Not sure what their local laws will be, but in all the levels of rugby I've reffed, the number 8 can pick up from an uncontested scrum, provided he disengages his shoulders first.

Hey! I'm 14 and playing scrumhalf for my JV team. From what I understand, yea you can. But I agree with others, ask before the game. All refs are different.

The Laws say you can, but at underage level it's really down to the ref's interpretation so you'd be best to ask them before the game. If you ask before a scrum the opposition will expect it more.

Absolutely no reason why the No.8 couldnt pick and go, there's nothing dangerous or unfair about it and there are no infringements being commited, so unless your crazy governing body has for some reason made it a offence then i would say yes!

as i far as i know you can as i've played un contested scrums and our number 8 has picked up but i'd ask them when you get there good luck
