Im hoping to join a rugby club so what skills could i learn at home or at the park or somewhere?

This depends on what position you play? Ultimately hand-eye co-ordination is key as it doesn't matter how quick or strong you are if you cannot catch a ball and pass it on accordingly. I would focus on these two things, catching (from throws and kicks) and passing a ball (especially at speed). This will make you a great player.
