How popular is rugby in america?

Rugby is one of America's fastest growing sports, believe it or not. Obviously it's popularity will never compare to that of baseball, gridiron or basketball, but that is simply because the game it's breathed and bred in America the same way it is in say, New Zealand. Regardless, the sport is growing rapidly, and you will almost guaranteed find a local Rugby club in most cities or towns, and I suspect over the next 5-10 years the majority of Americans would have not only heard of, but either watched or played Rugby.

Define popular. ls it as popular as other football code sports like gridiron football or soccer? Not even close. But Rugby USA has 100,000 registered players and 2,500 registered clubs. Every community big enough to warrant its own postal code will have a club. So it is known and played everywhere.

As a foreign student in Florida. I've noticed that there are many rugby teams in town as well as the university rugby team. I would say not as popular as American football, but if you involve yourself in rugby activities there you'd be ok.
