Rugby position help.?

I'm going to start playing rugby soon and I don't know which position I should go out for or practice. I am 5"11 and 220. I played Left Tackle for football and I am well conditioned and have very strong lower and upper body strength. I was thinking an 8 but I don't know enough to be sure. Any advice?I'm going to start playing rugby soon and I don't know which position I should go out for or practice. I am 5"11 and 220. If you have pace you'll be backrow, if you don't you'll probably be prop

If you are fully grown, you would be a little bit on the small side for a number 8 at pretty much any level. If the other players are just starting out in the game, I would suggest that you try hooker, it's one of the more technical positions so there will be a lot to learn. If you're slotting in with experienced players, I would suggest giving either flank a try (you're a little on the small side for a blind side and a little stock for an openside - try both and see which suits you), the position is very physically demanding, but there's much less to learn than hooking.

You haven't told us anything about your technical ability or pace so the jury's out on the backs positions. If you are a forward depending on your pace and strength will determine on whether you play front row or back row.

Yeah, if you are quick you could play back row. If not, probably tight head prop. I'm 6 foot 4 and weigh the same as you. I play centre but done it for years. If you work on your speed, trim down a bit you could play pretty much anywhere.
