American Football vs Rugby?

Like seriously, of the top NFL players formed a Rugby Union or League team how successful do you think they would be? And if the top Rugby League and Union players joined together to form and NFL team how successful do you think they would be? Personally due to growing and and training for the one sport they play all their lives I don't think that either side would be able to compete with the Top teams in the other sports.Like seriously, of the top NFL players formed a Rugby Union or League team how successful do you think they would be? Your conclusion is right on. One can imagine fine athletes from one sport having played another, if they had grown up in and trained for that tradition. But it is just a game, untied to reality. Mark L.

If the top NFL players formed a Rugby Union or League team they would lose every game badly at pro level. Its a tactically complex sport that requires a fair amount of technique, its not something you can just pick up and play at a high level even if you are a great athlete.

You answered the question correctly. To excel in any sport at an elite level requires a lifetime of training. Rugby and American football share a common root from 140 years ago, but have since evolved into entirely different games, with skillsets that hardly overlap at all anymore. You are not going to plunk any untrained player -- no matter how gifted an athlete -- into a match at that level and expect them to be anything other than pathetic.
